In order to monitor the condition of a machine, it is usually only necessary
to measure characteristic parameters (e.g. eff. vibration velocity) and to
record them (Level 1). As in the case of a sick patient’s temperature
chart, the trend indicates whether the measurement values are increasing or
remain consistently in the ‘green’ range. |

If the parameters exceed the
specified limits, this indicates a deterioration of the condition.
The cause for the increase can be determined by a diagnostic (e.g.
spectrum) measurement (Level 2). |
